The Family Ethos
Our Family Ethos
We’re big believers in the importance of connection: with family, friends, and the world around us.
At Wiz’s Camp, our ethos of family life works its way into everything. We believe that involving the whole family, across generations, old and young, makes for a fun and more enriching experience. Saskia loves the details - kombucha flavours, grasses on the table, and what you might want to drink at sundowners. Bertie is a brilliant fishing guide and can often be found in the river catching barbel. And Rose at this point is along for the ride! We should probably buy them some more khaki clothing ;-)
As a family there are a few things we believe in deeply. We’re keen to bring our children up with a deep understanding of the natural world around us, and a way of existing in harmony with the seasons. We stop to look at grasses, dung and soil. This tells us more than you’d think about what has been happening in the bush.
Wiz loves his rocks, grasses and animals, and behind the scenes he’s highly practical… which is lucky as there are a few cheeky elephants around camp who love to break in at night and wreck our water pipes. He was brought up in Northumberland, went to the Arctic when he was 18, and then travelled overland from the UK to Hong Kong for the 1997 Handover. He and his friend Rafe didn’t quite make it in time, but they did go on the Siberian railway, drink a lot of Tibetan yak tea, and find themselves getting a bit lost in the Himalayas at one point. A misspent youth? Meanwhile, Juju was brought up in Kenya with a step-father who started Kenya’s first horseback safaris in the 1970s. Tony Church is a bit of a legend in the safari business and his boots are hard to fill, but we’re all doing our best! More recently Juju founded Kenya’s most trusted sustainable online supermarket - her third business - and exited in 2024 to focus more on the kids and life in camp. As a result, you’ll find the food at Wiz’s Camp has the mark of Juju’s keen sense of flavour, seasonality and deliciousness.
Above all though, we just want you to come and enjoy this life with us. Whether it’s playing games in camp, exploring the ranch, sipping sundowners with views that can make you weep (with delight), fishing, learning your grasses, or watching a herd of elephant move past… living in the bush is real, unfiltered, connected, and nourishing in so many ways. Come and join us!
