Mess and Tents.

Wiz’s Camp is designed to feel deeply connected to its surroundings — a small, comfortable camp that sleeps up to 8 adults and 2 children in 4 tents, tucked into the folds of Suguroi Ranch’s 14,000 acres. The tents are spacious and airy, each with canvas walls and flysheets that breathe with the wind. Furnishings are practical yet considered: woven mats underfoot, wooden furniture, and crisp white linens on sturdy beds. Every detail feels intentional, pared-back, and quietly elegant.

Each tent has its own en-suite bathroom with a classic bucket shower, running water, and a flushing loo. Hot water is heated over the fire, giving every shower a faint scent of woodsmoke — one of those small rituals that roots you in the rhythm of camp life. At dusk, the tents glow softly with warm light and the air cools as the day folds into night.

The family tent offers a little extra space for those travelling together. It’s set close to the main mess area for ease and peace of mind, yet still private enough to feel part of the wild. The two connecting tents each have their own bathroom. One tent is a double the other a twin, but both rooms have space for an extra camp bed. The tents have a small canvas corridor joining them to provide the children their own space, while still letting them pop through in the middle of the night if they need to.

Out on your verandah, you can sit with a drink in hand and watch the last light slip off the hills. There’s space to read, to rest, to talk — or simply to listen to the quiet. The camp runs on solar power and is lit after dark, but we keep the lighting gentle to preserve the atmosphere of the wild around us.

Wiz’s Camp isn’t about excess or artifice — it’s about comfort that feels honest, and the rare pleasure of living close to the land without losing touch with the little luxuries that make it special: good beds, hot showers, thoughtful food, and that unbroken connection to the sounds and smells of the bush.
